The babble of a middle-aged lunatic.

Now you all know I'm not much for politics and all, but I spent the time today watching a press conference with President Bush, and the British Prime Minister concerning issues in the Middle-East. This airing actually piqued my curiosity and I felt somehow involved.

I have to say I was a bit impressed. I've seen Bush stumble over his words and seem foolish several years ago, and found myself so embarrassed that I no longer watched him on TV.

I have to admit, both Leaders came off to me as very competent, and I was actually interested. I liked the way Bush responded to the press; in my opinion he did very well.

I also liked the way the US, and her strongest ally supported each other in a seemingly genuine way.

I was surprised at my interest in the entire affair, and believe I'm going to follow this situation far more closely.

What possible arguments could one have concerning this press conference?

Same ones as usual. Stupid reporters asking stupid questions because they

a. did not do their homework
b. Think they are smarter than the president and so they come off looking stupid.

I heard the streaming version (not all as it was a busy day) and it sounded good to me as well. Guess that makes me a Bush Arse licker to those who cant form a rational question.

Beleive me there are people right now at the Daily Kos and the Democratic Underground penning spitbubble screeds simply because President Bush appeared on TV. Nothing short of national humiliation and defeat would satisfy these kid's need to prove their parents and authority figures "wrong".

Frankly President Bush has massively improved his public speaking in the second term but he simply doesn't address the nation on TV often enough. his radio address primarily is targetted at talk-radio listeners who are already in his corner for the most part. The war effort and an understanding of the long long long timeline neccessary for success would have been well served by weekly national TV addresses directly from the Oval Office.

The PR effort now seems to be too little and far too late to swing the public around.

Was it me or did Tony B look like he was going to explode, his head all bloated.

Trouble at home must be stressing him out.

Iraq is not a left or right issue. It is a disaster that was created by a President that did not understand the consequences of his actions and refused to listen to those far more knowledgeable and wise the he. The performance at a news conference is like a leaf on a tree when trying to understand the forest. The likelihood of controlling the violence in Iraq is almost ZERO. We have no good options and this war will be viewed by time as a VERY major error that has caused more unrest then any action since Vietnam.
